The interim government aims to hold elections promptly after consulting all parties, with the release of opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia also agreed upon. Zia, who has been in hospital, is expected to clear all legal charges and return soon. Hasina, who had ruled since 2009, has left Bangladesh and is reportedly in India. Her next steps are unclear, with speculation that she may travel to the UK.
