Call for Transparency in Diplomatic Negotiation Process Regarding Japanese Forced Labor Issue
Speaker Woo Won-sik expressed deep regret towards the Yoon Suk-yeol administration’s support for the UNESCO World Heritage listing of Japan’s Sado Gold Mine. He called on the government to disclose the full diplomatic negotiation process with Japan.
He emphasized the importance of revealing any suspicions regarding the handling of the issue and urged for transparency in light of Japan’s denial of forced labor in the mine. Speaker Woo criticized the government’s approval of the listing and demanded a proper response.
He urged the government to disclose the negotiation process, provide a list of forced labor victims, and obtain records from a bank related to the victims. The National Assembly previously adopted a resolution demanding withdrawal of the mine’s listing unless Japan fulfills promises related to forced labor exhibitions.
