The Main Military Intelligence Directorate in Ukraine reported on August 5 that a drone attack on the Morozovsk military airfield in Russia’s Rostov region was successful. Satellite imagery confirmed the destruction of a Su-34 fighter bomber and damage to two other aircraft. The attack also destroyed a storage depot with aviation munitions, as well as technical buildings and hangars on the airfield.
The operation was carried out by Ukrainian forces in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate. Ukrainian drones targeted the aviation ammunition depot, resulting in multiple detonations and fires, including those in storage areas for guided aerial bombs.
The Morozovsk airfield plays a vital role in Russia’s military operations in Ukraine and has been targeted by recent Ukrainian drone attacks. Despite Russia claiming to have shot down 75 Ukrainian drones in overnight attacks, damage was sustained at the Atlas plant, including a fuel depot.
Rostov-on-Don, the capital of the region, hosts Russia’s command headquarters for the military operation, making it a strategic target for Ukrainian forces.\
