North Korea has showcased its military might with the unveiling of 250 new tactical ballistic missile launchers in a ceremony attended by leader Kim Jong-un. The state-run KCNA news agency reported on the transfer of the weapons in a solemn ceremony in Pyongyang, amid escalating tensions with the US and South Korea.
The new missile launchers come after North Korea claimed to have successfully tested a missile capable of carrying a 4.5 ton “super-large warhead” with a range of 500km. Kim Jong-un emphasized the importance of these weapons in enhancing North Korea’s defense capabilities and prestige, as well as serving as a deterrent against perceived threats from the US and its allies.
In response, South Korea’s Unification Ministry spokesperson refuted claims that the US and South Korea posed a threat, pointing to North Korea’s development of nuclear weapons and missiles as the primary driver of instability on the Korean Peninsula.
The unveiling of these new missile launchers underscores the ongoing tensions in the region, with North Korea actively testing missiles and expressing concerns about military drills conducted by the US and its allies.
