Kano judiciary investigates court looting amid ongoing protest in Nigeria

CSOs Question Alleged Killings in Kano Protest

In response to the recent protests in Kano, the state judiciary has launched an investigation into the looting and vandalization of property during the national hunger protest on August 1st. The High Court spokesperson, Baba Ibrahim, confirmed the probe and promised to share the findings soon.

The rioters, claiming to be #EndBadGovernmentInNigeria protesters, broke into the High Court premises, stealing money, guns, and vandalizing offices and vehicles. The judiciary witnessed unprecedented damage, with case files, exhibits, and vehicles destroyed.

Despite calls for calm from President Bola Tinubu and a modified curfew, protesters continued their demonstration around different areas in Kano. Civil Society Organizations like CITAD and WAI have demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged killings of 24 protesters by the police during the unrest.

The CSOs condemned the violence and called on the government to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
