EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, expressed grave concern over the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza, particularly the water treatment plant in Rafah. He highlighted the dire humanitarian situation, with civilians facing starvation, displacement, and health risks due to the ongoing conflict.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed nearly 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza, leaving many hungry and homeless. Borrell emphasized the need for urgent access to humanitarian aid and the importance of upholding international law to protect civilians and aid workers.
He called for a ceasefire to end the suffering of both Palestinian civilians and Israeli hostages in Gaza. Borrell urged Israel to refrain from actions that worsen living conditions in Gaza and comply with obligations under international law.
Addressing violations of humanitarian law, Borrell stressed the need for thorough investigations and accountability. He also emphasized the importance of implementing the International Court of Justice’s orders to ensure aid delivery and withdrawal of forces from certain areas in Gaza.
