German Prime Minister Calls for Peace in Ukraine

During an election event in Schwedt, Dietmar Woidke, the Prime Minister of Brandenburg, emphasized the importance of a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. He urged the federal government to prioritize diplomatic efforts to ensure peace in Europe.

Woidke’s statements come amidst ongoing fighting in Ukraine, with Russian President Vladimir Putin outlining conditions for a peace process, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from certain regions and international recognition.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, regards Putin’s proposal as an ultimatum and insists on negotiations based on Ukraine’s proposed “peace formula,” involving a return to 1991 borders and the withdrawal of Russian troops.

While Zelensky has expressed willingness to negotiate with Putin, he emphasizes the need for Western pressure on Moscow to achieve the peaceful return of Ukrainian territories. The situation remains tense as both sides navigate towards a potential resolution.
