Former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh accused Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of political vengeance by using sacked police officer Sachin Waze to level allegations against him. Deshmukh challenged Fadnavis to make Justice Chandiwal Commission report public, claiming he was given a clean chit after an inquiry lasting 11 months.
Waze reiterated bribery allegations against Deshmukh, prompting further inquiry. Deshmukh had resigned in 2021 after being accused of setting a monthly collection target from bars and restaurants. Waze previously claimed to have paid money to Deshmukh’s associates on his instructions.
Deshmukh accused Fadnavis of delaying the report’s findings intentionally and demanded their public release. BJP spokesperson Ram Kulkarni dismissed Deshmukh’s accusations and asserted that CBI has evidence against him. Kulkarni also questioned Waze’s reinstatement in the police service and Uddhav Thackeray’s defense of him during bribery allegations.
