A senior lecturer at Federal University Kashere, Dr. Tukur Yemi, has urged President Bola Tinubu to set up a judicial panel to investigate cases of police brutality during recent protests and ensure justice for victims. In a statement titled ‘Nigeria in Crisis: A Plea for Leadership and Reconciliation,’ Dr. Yemi emphasized the importance of addressing protesters’ grievances and implementing reforms to tackle inequality.
Dr. Yemi highlighted the need for immediate action to restore peace and order in Nigeria, emphasizing the detrimental impact of instability on society. He called for a collaborative effort between the government, state governors, and stakeholders to find long-term solutions to the crisis, urging a reduction in the use of excessive force by security forces.
Additionally, he proposed the reinstatement of the fuel subsidy to ease economic hardships and show a commitment to addressing the protesters’ demands. Dr. Yemi’s plea for calm and an end to violence echoes the urgent need for leadership and dialogue to resolve the ongoing unrest in the nation.
