Delhi L-G labels Nizamuddin’s arterial drains as ‘shameful’

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena inspected three choked drains in Nizamuddin and criticized their condition as “appalling & shameful.” These drains were filled with silt, sludge, and debris, causing concern.

Responding to the Lt Governor’s critique, the AAP accused him of engaging in politics rather than taking meaningful action. Saxena, however, shared his findings on social media and emphasized the urgent need for corrective measures to prevent flooding.

During his inspection, Saxena discovered the neglected state of these drains maintained by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department and MCD. He directed officials to desilt the drains immediately and clear encroachments within a week to ensure smooth water flow.

Saxena’s visit highlighted the negligence of authorities, prompting him to demand swift action to prevent flooding in the area. He also instructed officials to monitor the drains closely, clear encroachments, and penalize offenders dumping waste into the drains.

The AAP criticized the delay in action, alleging that the Chief Secretary ignored directives regarding drain desilting. Despite the ongoing dispute, Saxena remains committed to improving Delhi’s drainage system for the welfare of its residents.
