A devastating attack at a beach restaurant in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu left at least 100 people dead and 300 wounded, making it the deadliest assault in the country since another car bomb attack in October 2022. Al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab, known for similar past attacks, has not claimed responsibility yet. Despite government offensives pushing back the militants in recent years, al Shabaab remains a threat and continues to target government, commercial, and military establishments.
Former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire condemned the attack, highlighting the terrorists’ disregard for innocent lives. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the persistent danger posed by extremist groups in the region.
