UK halts arms sales to Israel due to Iran, Hezbollah threats.

The United Kingdom’s new Labour government has sparked controversy with a reported ‘secret arms embargo’ on Israel, detailed in an exclusive by the Daily Mail. Civil servants paused new weapons export licenses pending a review by Foreign Minister David Lammy to determine if war crimes were committed during the offensive against Hamas.

Lammy’s decision is not expected until later this summer, causing a prolonged delay. The pause in licensing also halts the shipment of military radios and body armor to Israel.

Shadow Foreign Secretary Andrew Mitchell criticized the move as “bizarre,” especially in light of recent threats to Israel from Iran and escalations on its northern border. Former UK forces commander in Afghanistan, Colonel Richard Kemp, condemned the government for what he called a ‘secret arms embargo’ on Israel.

This controversial decision has raised concerns and drawn strong reactions from various figures in the UK, with implications for the UK-Israel bilateral relations and ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
