The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) clarified that there is no provision to exempt toll fees based on queue length or wait time at plazas on National Highways (NHs). Additionally, fee plazas within a 60-km range of each other are permissible as per the rules.
In response to queries in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari addressed concerns about toll tax on specific routes. He stated that the collection of user fees adheres to existing regulations.
MP Imran Masood raised issues regarding toll plazas on the Chandigarh-Dehradun NH-73 route. Gadkari explained that the placement of fee plazas follows the NH Fee Rules and agreements.
While a viral video suggested the closure of multiple toll plazas, the recent Lok Sabha reply dismissed any such exemptions, emphasizing compliance with NH Fee Rules.
Gadkari affirmed that fee plazas are strategically placed on NHs, with provisions for exceptions in special cases like bridges or tunnels. He further highlighted the significance of FASTag implementation in reducing wait times.
