Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted his country’s citizens who were freed in a historic prisoner exchange with the West facilitated by Türkiye. The Kremlin released a video of Putin personally welcoming the Russians at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport, followed by a meeting attended by top officials like Defense Minister Andrey Belousov.
Putin congratulated the citizens on their return and thanked them for their loyalty to their country. He announced that they would be nominated for state awards as a gesture of appreciation for their service. This exchange was part of a larger operation led by Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT), involving seven countries.
The operation included the exchange of 26 prisoners from the US, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway, Russia, and Belarus. A total of 10 prisoners, including two children, were sent to Russia, 13 to Germany, and three to the US, making it one of the most extensive swap operations in recent years.
