Pentagon sending ships and fighters to strengthen presence in Mideast

In response to increasing threats from Iran, the Pentagon is ramping up its military presence in the Middle East to support Israel. The Defense Department announced on Friday that additional ships, fighter planes, and ballistic missile defense vessels will be deployed to the region, following President Joe Biden’s promise to provide new defensive military support to Israel.

This strengthening of forces comes after recent assassinations of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, sparking fears of retaliation from Iran. The Pentagon spokesperson, Sabrina Singh, confirmed the deployment of ballistic missile defense-capable cruisers and destroyers to the U.S. European and Central Command regions. Additionally, steps are being taken to enhance readiness for the deployment of land-based ballistic missile defense systems.

The U.S. government is dedicated to ensuring the security and protection of its allies in the Middle East, particularly in light of escalating tensions. The increased military presence reflects a commitment to deterring potential threats and maintaining stability in the region.
