Armed group claims responsibility for attack on popular seaside spot frequented by Somalis on weekends.
Tragedy struck on a bustling Friday night at Lido beach in Mogadishu as an armed group, Al-Shabab, carried out a deadly attack. Reports indicate that multiple people were killed and many more were injured in the assault, with the attackers targeting a spot popular among Somalis for weekend leisure.
Security forces quickly responded to the scene, with Somalian officials confirming that at least five attackers were killed and another detonated an explosive device. The aftermath of the attack left a gruesome sight along the beach, with numerous casualties and fatalities.
Former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire expressed his condolences to the affected families and condemned the hostility displayed by the terrorists towards the Somali people. Lido beach has been a recurrent target for Al-Shabab, a group striving to overthrow the fragile central government and wreak havoc in the region.
As the government collaborates with international forces to combat the group, the recent attack serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by Al-Shabab in Somalia.
