Political Parties Unite in Jammu to Demand Restoration of Statehood
Recently, the All Party United Front (APUF) in Jammu, comprising various opposition parties, came together to demand the restoration of statehood in Jammu and Kashmir. The demonstration was organized ahead of the Supreme Court’s September 30 deadline for holding assembly elections in the region.
Key opposition parties, excluding the BJP, gathered to protest against the Central government’s decision to grant more powers to the lieutenant governor and delay the restoration of statehood. They highlighted the BJP’s failure to fulfill its promises made in Parliament regarding statehood restoration and assembly elections.
The protesters emphasized the importance of democratic rights for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and criticized the BJP-led government for exacerbating terrorism and security issues in the region. The National Conference expressed optimism about forming the next government and revoking laws imposed by the BJP.
The APUF has formed a core committee to continue advocating for the restoration of full statehood. The protesters vowed to intensify their efforts until their demands are met.
