KRG President Urges Implementation of Sinjar Agreement
The president of Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), Nechirvan Barzani, emphasized the importance of implementing the Sinjar agreement signed with the country’s central government. Barzani called for the removal of the terrorist PKK and all illegal groups from Sinjar, stressing that the Ezidis must regain control of their administration. Speaking at an event in Erbil marking the 10th anniversary of the Sinjar massacre, Barzani highlighted the need for rebuilding Sinjar’s infrastructure and ensuring stability for the return of the Ezidi community.
Reflecting on the brutal 2014 Sinjar massacre, Barzani emphasized the ongoing trauma faced by the Ezidis and the necessity of holding the perpetrators accountable. Iraq’s central government and the KRG must work together to restore normalcy to Sinjar and address the plight of the missing Ezidis. The PKK’s presence in the region under the guise of protecting the Ezidis from Daesh/ISIS must come to an end to facilitate the rebuilding of security and hope in Sinjar.
As we reflect on the tragic events that unfolded in Sinjar in 2014, let us unite in our efforts to ensure justice for the victims and rebuild a peaceful future for the Ezidi community.
