The incident has sparked global condemnation from countries like Russia, China, and groups including the Taliban and Hezbollah.
While Israel has not claimed responsibility for the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has previously hinted at Mossad operations against Hamas. Haniyeh, a key Hamas figure since 1987, held various leadership positions within the group and the Palestinian government.
