In a surprising turn of events, the Ministry of Agriculture has canceled its plans to reduce agricultural tax rates for 2024. Minister Czesław Siekierski, who had previously assured farmers of maintaining the 2023 tax levels, cited financial constraints as the reason for this abrupt U-turn. The promise of tax reductions, corn subsidies, and liquidity loans was part of an agreement reached in January with protesting farmers from Podkarpacka.
Financial Constraints
Despite the initial promise, the Ministry of Agriculture failed to secure funding from the Ministry of Finance for the proposed tax cuts. The Finance Minister’s office clarified that the promised assistance was not part of the special reserve fund. The estimated cost of the tax reduction to the state budget was about 300 million PLN, as reported by Tygodnik Poradnik Rolniczy.
In an official document from the Government Legislative Center, Minister Siekierski confirmed the withdrawal of the bill due to the lack of financial resources. This announcement came just after the March deadline for the new tax rates, leaving farmers feeling betrayed.
