Solar Power Plant Planned for Juba City
Deputy Information Minister Dr. Jacob Maiju Korok announced that the Minister for Energy and Dams, Peter Marcello, has proposed the construction of a five megawatts hyper solar power plant in Juba City. The plan, presented to the Cabinet, aims to provide reliable and affordable energy to the city.
The project, costing an estimated US$150.2 million with a 20-year maturity period and five-year grace period on a concessional loan, is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Energy and Dams and TPA Company Limited. The plan was unanimously approved by the Cabinet.
In related news, the Energy Minister requested the Finance Minister to disburse US$50 million to a company that had filed a lawsuit against the government for non-payment related to a solar plant project in Nesitu. The National Council of Ministers also approved the draft budget for 2024/2025, focusing on paying civil servants and cutting travel expenses.
With a budget of 4.2 trillion SSP and a fiscal deficit of 1.9 trillion SSP, the government is set to prioritize essential expenditures in the upcoming fiscal year.
