The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised concerns about the appointment of an officer previously suspended for alleged bribery as the administrator of Asha Kiran shelter home in Delhi, where 14 inmates died in July.
Senior AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj questioned the Lt Governor’s decision to appoint Rahul Agarwal, a previous bribery accused, as the shelter home administrator despite his tainted history.
Bharadwaj demanded action against Agarwal and the social welfare department secretary while pointing out irregularities at the shelter home.
The AAP also raised concerns about accountability in other cases of negligence, questioning why no action was taken in similar incidents in Old Rajinder Nagar and East Delhi.
The Delhi government has initiated a magisterial probe into the Asha Kiran shelter home deaths, as the Lt Governor ordered an investigation into all shelter homes run by the government.
