8 Ukrainian kids repatriated from Russian-occupied Kherson Oblast, per governor

Eight Ukrainian children have returned home from Russian-occupied parts of Kherson Oblast, thanks to the efforts of regional governor Oleksandr Prokrudin. These children, aged between six and 17, were met with relief and support upon their return, marking a small victory in the fight against Russia’s systematic abduction of Ukrainian children.

Since the beginning of the conflict, Russia has illegally taken at least 19,500 children from Ukraine, with only a fraction being able to return home. This violation of international law has been condemned by Kyiv and Western allies, leading to the International Criminal Court issuing arrest warrants for Russian officials involved.

In 2024 alone, 162 children from Kherson Oblast have returned to Ukrainian-controlled territories, showcasing the ongoing efforts to reunite families and protect the rights of innocent civilians. Prokrudin highlighted the role of the Ukrainian humanitarian NGO Save Ukraine in facilitating these reunions.
