In a horrific attack in Mogadishu, a suicide bomber and gunmen from the extremist group Al-Shabaab targeted a popular beach, killing 32 people and injuring many more. The assailants indiscriminately shot civilians, spreading chaos and fear among the beachgoers. The attack, one of the deadliest in recent months, underscores the ongoing threat posed by the Al-Qaida-linked militants in Somalia.
Videos shared online showed the aftermath of the attack, with bloodied bodies strewn on the beachfront as people scrambled for safety. Security forces eventually managed to end the assault, killing five of the attackers and capturing another who blew himself up.
This is not the first time Al-Shabaab has targeted the Lido beach area, a popular spot for business people and officials. The group has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks in Mogadishu and continues to pose a significant challenge to the country’s stability.
The latest attack serves as a grim reminder of the persistent threat of terrorism in Somalia and the need for continued efforts to combat extremist groups like Al-Shabaab.
