UN experts urge Israel arms embargo to halt Palestine occupation

UN Experts Urge Member States to Pressure Israel to End Occupation

A group of 38 UN human rights experts is calling on UN member states to exert pressure on Israel to comply with a recent court order to end its illegal occupation of Palestine. In a statement, the experts emphasized the findings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that Israel is unlawfully occupying the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, and perpetrating apartheid.

They urged nations to consider actions such as an arms embargo, cutting diplomatic and financial ties, and ending all cooperation with Israel to enforce the ICJ ruling. The experts stressed the importance of upholding Palestinian self-determination and ending Israel’s oppression.

The experts also called for the prosecution of individuals and entities supporting the occupation. This plea aligns with previous calls from Palestinian activists for divestment and sanctions against Israel. The experts emphasized the urgency of taking action to address the ongoing violence and settlements in the occupied territories.

As the death toll in Gaza continues to rise, with over 39,480 people killed, international pressure on Israel is seen as crucial to halt the atrocities. The experts called on member states to support measures like an arms embargo and targeted sanctions to hold Israel accountable for its actions.
