The Greek government is taking steps to strengthen collective bargaining procedures, aiming to boost wages for private sector employees and address concerns over stagnant incomes.

Labor Minister Niki Kerameus has emphasized the need for a new social employment pact, reflecting pressure from the EU to comply with a directive setting a target of 80% coverage by collective agreements by 2022.

The government believes that offering competitive wages in the private sector, coupled with increased employment opportunities, can help address the current challenges. Low wages have been identified as a key factor contributing to the lack of interest in collective bargaining.
