India Urged to Halt Arms Export to Israel
A group of eminent citizens in India has penned a letter to the country’s defense minister, urging him to stop the license process that allows arms and ammunition exports to Israel. The group, which includes former judges, economists, activists, and authors like Arundhati Roy, emphasized the need for India to suspend collaboration in delivering military material to Israel to prevent potential violations of international humanitarian law.
They demanded the cancellation of existing export licenses for arms and munitions to Israel, citing concerns over the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The group criticized the removal of export license details from a public website and urged transparency in this process.
The letter highlighted India’s obligation under international laws and treaties to refrain from supplying weapons to states involved in war crimes. The group condemned the use of starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza by Israel and called for an immediate halt to arms supplies.
In response to international criticism, Israel has faced accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice. The letter serves as a plea for India to uphold ethical standards in its arms export policies and refrain from contributing to further violence in the region.
