Power outages to resume in Egypt on Sept 15

Egyptian Minister of Electricity, Mahmoud Essmat, announced the extension of the suspension of the load shedding plan until September 15, providing relief to households and businesses.

During a government meeting at New Alamein, Essmat highlighted the ministry’s efforts to secure fuel reserves to deal with any heat waves or emergencies, ensuring a stable power supply for the country.

The Minister discussed the national grid system’s capacity and plans to generate electricity from various sources, with a focus on increasing renewable energy production. The target is to reach 45,000 megawatts from renewable projects, with current capacities of 4.6 gigawatts from wind and solar and 2832 megawatts from hydropower.

Essmat also reviewed upcoming projects set to be operational before 2025 and those still in progress, aiming to add 28 gigawatts of wind energy to the grid. The government has signed agreements for land allocation and conducted necessary measurements for these future projects.
