Police Stop Climate Activists from Disrupting Hamburg Airport Operations
Police in Hamburg successfully prevented climate activists from disrupting operations at Hamburg airport. A group of cyclists near the airport was stopped at 5 a.m., with police finding equipment in their bags indicating an intended blockade. Four suspects were detained, while others fled the scene. Another suspect planning to video the blockade was arrested. Despite the police operation, flights were not affected.
Protests at German Airports
Climate protests resumed in July at German airports like Munich and Dusseldorf after a six-month break. Demonstrators glued themselves to the runway at Leipzig/Halle Airport, disrupting cargo flights. Frankfurt and Cologne-Bonn airports were also targeted, causing flight delays. The Last Generation group organized the protests to demand an international fossil fuel phase-out agreement.
Berlin’s Response
