The Supreme Court prosecutor’s recent announcement about the wiretapping affair investigation by a deputy prosecutor, Achilles Zisis, has left the public disappointed. The tone of the announcement was more of a PR stunt, lacking the impartiality expected from such a serious matter.
The announcement claimed “indisputable” evidence of no connections between different wiretaps, raising suspicions of bias. The refusal to disclose reasons for certain surveillance adds to the skepticism. Legal experts criticize the handling of the case and question the government’s influence on the justice system.
If the government wishes to regain public trust, transparency and accountability are essential. Apologizing to wrongly surveilled individuals and explaining the reasons behind each wiretap could help clear the air of doubt.
Without these actions, doubts of collusion will continue to linger, casting shadows on the integrity of the justice system. The need for transparency and unbiased investigations is crucial to maintain public trust and faith in the legal system.
