In Abuja, Nigeria, peaceful protests calling for an end to bad governance and hunger escalated into violence as police fired tear gas and live bullets at demonstrators, mostly youth. Despite police aggression, protestors continued to resist, picking up tear gas canisters and throwing them back. In interviews with Iran Press, protesters expressed frustration with ongoing violence and government inaction in states like Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna.
The unrest spread to neighboring states like Niger and Kaduna, where more protesters were killed by police. In response, a 24-hour curfew was declared in Borno State following a bomb explosion that claimed 19 lives. Further clashes erupted in Biogbolo community in Bayelsa State, as opposing groups of protesters clashed over the ongoing hunger crisis.
Despite the crackdown, demonstrators vowed to continue their protests for ten days to pressure President Bola Ahmad Tinubu to address the country’s worsening problems. The situation remains tense as Nigerians demand accountability and action from their government.
