Hamas halts ceasefire talks after leader’s death
Hamas has suspended negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage release deal indefinitely in response to the assassination of its political leader, Ismail Haniyeh. The Israel Defense Forces’ GLZ Radio reported the development, attributing it to sources within the organization.
While Hamas has not officially commented on the status of the negotiations, they have accused Israel of being responsible for Haniyeh’s death. The Israeli government has neither confirmed nor denied these allegations.
Haniyeh and his bodyguard were killed in Tehran, where they were attending the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The incident has escalated tensions in the region, with the repercussions of the leader’s death unclear.
