The European Union (EU) is considering suspending its assistance to Georgia due to the controversial law “on transparency of foreign influence” that recently went into effect. Peter Stano, Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Commission, expressed serious concerns about the situation in Georgia in an interview with Europa Press.
Stano highlighted that the EU views the enactment of the law as a setback in Georgia’s path towards European integration. As a result, the EU has already limited its political engagements with Georgian officials, focusing only on resolving the current issues.
Furthermore, the EU is contemplating suspending financial aid to the Georgian government, with 30 million euros in military assistance already frozen under the European Peace Facility. This move signals the EU’s dissatisfaction with the recent developments in Georgia and underscores the importance of upholding democratic values and principles.
