Arundhati Roy urges India to stop arms sales to Israel or be tied to genocide forever

Writer and activist Arundhati Roy has called on the Indian government to halt the sale and export of arms and ammunition to Israel to avoid being associated with the genocide in Gaza. As civil society expresses growing concerns over India’s role in Israel’s war on Gaza, prominent figures, including Roy, have urged India to stop issuing permits for weapons exports to Israel. The signatories of the letter to India’s defence ministry highlighted the breach of international law and complicity in genocide by continuing these exports.

The letter also pointed out that the International Court of Justice found Israel potentially guilty of crimes violating the Genocide Convention. The organisers emphasized the need for India to abide by international humanitarian law and cease exporting military equipment to Israel. Despite historical military ties between India and Israel, activists argue that supplying weapons to a state engaged in potential war crimes violates India’s international obligations.
