Wasim Abu Shaaban: Bodyguard and commander killed with Hamas leader Haniyeh

Remembering Wasim Abu Shaban: A Heroic Defender of Hamas

Wasim Abu Shaban, also known as “Abu Anas,” dedicated his life to serving as a personal bodyguard to Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas. Tragically, both lives were cut short in an assassination operation in Tehran. Abu Shaban, 36, was a respected figure within the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing.

Born in Gaza City, Abu Shaban was a graduate of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the Islamic University. He was known for his close connection to mosques and his recitation of the Quran. He had previously served as a personal guard for other Hamas officials and led a faction within the elite forces of the Al-Qassam Brigades.

During the 2014 Israeli war on Gaza, Abu Shaban participated in a daring operation that targeted an Israeli military site, showcasing his commitment to the Palestinian resistance. His death, alongside Haniyeh, has sparked vows of revenge from both Hamas and Iran.

This tragic loss marks a significant turning point in the region, with implications for future conflicts. Abu Shaban will be remembered as a hero who dedicated his life to defending his people.
