UNSC Condemns Israel’s Assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Urges Immediate Ceasefire
Members of the United Nations Security Council have strongly condemned Israel’s assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas in Tehran. The UNSC convened for an emergency session at Iran’s request, expressing deep concern over the escalating violence in the region.
Chinese Ambassador Fu Cong condemned the attack as a blatant attempt to disrupt peace efforts, while Algeria’s envoy warned of a looming catastrophe. Russia also criticized the assassination, emphasizing its dangerous implications for the entire region.
The State of Palestine called for accountability for Israel’s actions, highlighting the regime’s long history of oppression and violence. Iran’s Ambassador warned of Israel’s expansion of aggression beyond Gaza.
Amidst calls for an immediate ceasefire and increased international efforts to prevent further conflict, the world remains on edge as tensions rise in the Middle East. The UNSC Resolution 1701, aimed at maintaining peace, must be upheld to avoid the region descending into full-scale war.
