Ukraine’s air force successfully repelled a massive long-range drone attack from Russia, shooting down all 89 drones launched at Kyiv and the surrounding region. This attack, the largest of its kind in the 29-month war, targeted Kyiv and surrounding areas, resulting in the downing of over 40 drones. The air force identified the drones as Shahed-131/136, commonly used by Russia for strikes on Ukraine.
Russia deployed a significant number of decoy drones in an attempt to deplete Ukraine’s air defenses and locate their positions. Despite the intense attack, no civilian or critical infrastructure was directly hit, but debris damaged private residences in the region. Residents took shelter in metro stations as drones approached from all directions.
The Ukrainian air force also intercepted a missile fired at the southern region of Mykolaiv, ensuring no reported damage. Additionally, Belarusian opposition group Hajun reported Russian drone incursions into Belarusian airspace. Minsk, a Kremlin ally, did not comment on the incident.
The ongoing conflict highlights the importance of air defenses, with Kyiv urging allies to provide support. The relentless attacks underscore the resilience of Ukraine against Russian aggression.
