Russia military supplier head arrested amid rising corruption cases.

The head of the Russian military’s clothing and food supplier, Voentorg, Vladimir Pavlov, was detained on fraud charges. This follows a series of arrests of high-ranking military officials in Russia since the dismissal of Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov. The Russian Interior Ministry claimed that Pavlov was part of a criminal conspiracy to sell toiletries to the military at inflated prices, resulting in a 400 million rubles ($4.6 million) loss through government contracts.

Ukrainian military intelligence reported a surge in bribery cases within the Russian military, particularly in the Southern Military District. The 8th Combined Arms Army, deployed in Ukraine, is under investigation for almost half of these cases. Additionally, the 58th Combined Arms Army’s commander was arrested for corruption earlier this year. Over 100 bribery cases have been launched against service members, highlighting the systemic corruption within the Russian army.

These recent developments shed light on the pervasive corruption within the Russian military and the challenges faced by those striving for accountability and integrity within the system.\
