Prisoner Swap Operation Led by Türkiye Brings Eight Russian Citizens Home
Recently, a major prisoner swap operation led by Türkiye resulted in the return of eight Russian citizens who were detained or imprisoned in various NATO countries. The operation, which took place at the airport in Ankara, successfully brought the individuals back to their homeland.
Managed by Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT), the prisoner exchange involved seven countries and a total of 26 individuals. The exchange was carried out with the help of seven aircraft, including those from Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway, Russia, the US, and two from the US. Belarus also played a role in the swap.
The Russian citizens were exchanged for individuals who were deemed to have acted against the security of the Russian Federation. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree pardoning the individuals who were returned to the US, expressing gratitude to all countries involved in facilitating the exchange.
This successful operation showcases the effectiveness of cooperation between nations in resolving diplomatic issues and ensuring the safe return of individuals detained abroad.
