Myanmar’s National Defense and Security Council (NDSC) has decided to extend the state of emergency in the country for an additional six months, according to the state-run Myanmar Radio and Television. The decision was reached during a meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw, where all NDSC members present agreed to prolong the emergency period in accordance with Section 425 of the State Constitution.
Aside from the extension of the state of emergency, the meeting also touched upon various topics such as election preparations, development work, the upcoming national population and housing census, as well as the status of the education, health, and agricultural sectors in the country.
Originally declared in February 2021 for a one-year period, Myanmar has since extended the state of emergency five times, with the latest extension set to continue until the end of January next year.
