An unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday morning as an Indian fisherman lost his life and another went missing after a collision with a Sri Lankan naval vessel near Katchatheevu Island, stated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA conveyed its “shock and anguish” over the tragic incident and called the Sri Lankan acting high commissioner to discuss the matter.
The MEA reported, “A collision took place early this morning between a Sri Lankan naval vessel and an Indian fishing boat. Out of the four fishermen onboard, one lost his life and another is missing.”
Efforts are underway to locate the missing fisherman while two others have been rescued and brought to safety. Indian officials are providing assistance to the affected fishermen and their families.
