Fear of Protest Violence: House of Rep Member – The Guardian

The call for dialogue over protests has been made by Babajimi Benson, the House of Representatives member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos State. He emphasized the need for the Federal Government to better inform citizens about its activities to bridge the communication gap between the government and the people.

Benson highlighted the importance of peaceful protests but expressed concerns that the planned nationwide protest against hunger could turn violent if hijacked by individuals with malicious intentions. He referenced past incidents where peaceful protests escalated into violence and looting, urging for caution.

While acknowledging that the government is not perfect, Benson stressed the importance of effective communication to showcase the government’s achievements and initiatives. He mentioned the role of credible individuals like Professor Pate and President Bola Tinubu in sending positive signals to both the international community and Nigerian citizens.

By fostering dialogue and improving communication, Benson believes that the government can gain the trust and support of the people, ultimately leading to a more informed and involved citizenry.
