In preparation for China’s Army Day on August 1, the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee has highlighted the country’s commitment to enhancing modern defense systems to safeguard national security and development. The focus is on improving infrastructure connectivity, integrating science and technology into defense efforts, and promoting cooperation with neighboring countries.
On the 97th anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), recent reforms have restructured the PLA into four services and arms, and five theater commands. The total personnel size has been reduced, with an emphasis on quality over quantity, as over half of active PLA members now hold college degrees or higher.
Despite these advancements, China maintains a defensive national defense policy and a modest defense budget relative to its GDP, emphasizing a commitment to peace and non-expansionism.
