Tragedy struck a fishing village between Jonglei State’s Nyirol and Pigi counties when armed assailants attacked, killing two fishermen and injuring two others. Additionally, five children were abducted in the violent incident that took place on Sunday evening. The Nyirol County commissioner, James Bol Makuey, expressed shock at the attack, stating that it occurred while the victims sought shelter from the rain in their huts.
The assailants disrupted the economic activities of the locals, leading to condemnation from county officials. The involvement of armed youth suspected to be from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) was suggested, prompting a call for intervention from the GPAA government. However, Oleyo Akwer Nyalus, the GPAA Information Minister, denied any knowledge of their youth being involved in the attacks in Jonglei State.
