정점식 국민의힘 정책위의장이 한동훈 지도부로부터 사퇴를 공개적으로 압박받은지 하루가 지난 1일에도 거취를 명확히 밝히지 않았다. 정 의장 거취를 두고 친한동훈계와 친윤계의 긴장감이 높아지는 모양새다.
정 의장은 이날 국회에서 열린 최고위원회에 참석하며 ‘밤중에 (사퇴를) 고민하셨냐’는 기자들의 질문에 “고민할 게 있나”라고 말했다. 사실상 사퇴 뜻이 없음을 에둘러 말한 것이다. 서범수 사무총장은 전날 서울 여의도 당사에서 기자들과 만나 “새로운 변화를 위해 당대표가 임면권을 가지고 있는 당직자에게 일괄 사퇴 의사를 (표명해달라고 했다)”고 말했지만, 정 의장은 이날까지 사의 표명을 하지 않았다.
한 대표는 ‘변화’를 강조하며 교체 의지를 거듭 피력했다. 한 대표는 이날 출근 길에 기자들과 만나 “(당직 인사는) 제가 우리 당의 변화와 민심을 받들어서 차분히 잘 진행하겠다”고 말했다. 서 사무총장도 “(정 의장의 입장에 대해) 아직 소식 들은 건 없다. 너무 오래가지는 않을 것”이라고 말했다.
정 의장은 이날 최고위에서 자신의 발언 순서가 다가오자 “오늘은 발언하지 않겠다”고 짧게 답했다. 거취 압박에 대한 불편한 심경을 공개적으로 표출한 셈이다.
