Verdict in Case of Russia National Desecration in Yerevan

Zhoghovurd, the newspaper of the Republic of Armenia, reported on a recent court decision regarding the desecration of the Russian Federation flag by RA citizen Samvel Shirinyan in Yerevan. The court found Shirinyan guilty under Article 329, Section 2, Clause 3 of the RA Criminal Code and sentenced him to 1 year in prison. However, the imprisonment was not applied conditionally, but with a probationary period of 3 years.

The incident had garnered attention from Vadim Fefilov, the head of the Russian House in Armenia, who petitioned the RA Prosecutor General. Shirinyan was apprehended at the Bagratashen checkpoint while attempting to flee across the Armenian border into Georgia.
