Venezuelan Foreign Minister Announces Severing of Diplomatic Ties with Peru After Election Dispute
In response to Peru’s refusal to recognize the results of Venezuela’s recent presidential election, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil announced the decision to cut diplomatic relations with Peru. This action came after Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea endorsed the Venezuelan opposition candidate as the president-elect.
“The Government of Venezuela has decided to sever diplomatic ties with Peru based on the Vienna Convention. This move follows the irresponsible comments made by the Peruvian foreign minister,” stated Gil.
