Venezuela to sever ties with Peru

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Announces Severing of Diplomatic Ties with Peru After Election Dispute

In response to Peru’s refusal to recognize the results of Venezuela’s recent presidential election, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil announced the decision to cut diplomatic relations with Peru. This action came after Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea endorsed the Venezuelan opposition candidate as the president-elect.

“The Government of Venezuela has decided to sever diplomatic ties with Peru based on the Vienna Convention. This move follows the irresponsible comments made by the Peruvian foreign minister,” stated Gil.

Nicolas Maduro secured a third term in office in the July 28 election, leading to protests and clashes in Caracas. The Venezuelan government accused multiple nations of interference in the electoral process.
