UK Foreign Secretary to Arrive in Beirut on August 1 – Source
BEIRUT (Sputnik) – UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy will arrive in the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Thursday, a source close to Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told Sputnik. This visit comes amidst a tense situation in the country, especially in light of threats from Israel. Berri aims to resolve the situation to prevent a large-scale conflict outbreak. The Israeli army accused Hezbollah of a rocket strike on the Golan Heights, resulting in tensions escalating between the two parties. Israel Defense Forces claimed responsibility for a strike in Beirut targeting a Hezbollah commander, Fuad Shukr, whom they alleged was killed in the attack. However, Hezbollah denied this claim, stating that the assassination attempt had failed.
Meanwhile, a source within Hezbollah refuted the claims of Shukr’s death, indicating that the Israeli strikes had aimed to assassinate him but failed in their attempt.
