Recent events have shown the government taking action against members of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) for inciting violence against the Chief Justice of Pakistan. Following hate speech incidents, two individuals are in custody, and approximately 1,500 have been booked.
Police arrested TLP leader Saqib Ibrahim for inciting violence against the Chief Justice in Okara, as more disturbing remarks were made by the party’s deputy emir Pir Zaheerul Hassan Shah in Lahore. The authorities have registered cases against TLP leaders and workers under anti-terror laws for spreading hatred against the judiciary and government.
Efforts are underway to apprehend other accused individuals, including Tauqeer Nasir and Farzand Naseem, who are connected to the hate speech incidents. Separate FIRs have been filed in Faisalabad and Sheikhupura against hundreds of TLP members.
Punjab police are on high alert to prevent any unlawful or violent protest by TLP members across the province. These actions aim to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law in the face of provocative speeches and threats against the judiciary.
