Exciting news from Shimla! The construction of the world’s second-largest ropeway project, the 13.79-km Shimla Ropeway Project, is set to begin on March 1, 2025, as announced by Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. This project aims to decongest the state capital and promises to revolutionize urban transport in the region.
The project has received all necessary clearances, including forest clearance under the Forest Clearance Act, and is ready to move forward. The route will have 15 stations named Monal Line, Deodar Line, and Apple Line.
With a capacity to transport 2,000 persons per hour initially, the ropeway will cover a 60-km area and is expected to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for thousands of people. The project will be financed through a loan from the New Development Bank, with the state government contributing 20% of the cost.
Stay tuned for more updates on this groundbreaking project that is sure to transform transportation in Shimla and set a new standard for urban development in the region!
